How to prepare your business before hiring a Virtual Assistant

One way to grow your business is to hire a Virtual Assistant… whilst they can help you manage your time; you need to make sure you spend some time preparing what work you want them to do as this will help set you up for success.

Here are some questions to ask yourself before you hire a Virtual Assistant:

1. What do I want to outsource?

When running your own business, there are most likely many tasks that need to be done but you don’t have enough time to complete them or hire full time staff. This is when hiring a virtual assistant would be useful. Before this, make sure you know which tasks to hand over as this can make a big difference in the success of your business. Knowing what tasks, you want to outsource early on will be a great help for your VA and the quicker they can start working on your business!

2. Which methods of communication are best for me?

Once you know what tasks you want to outsource to the Virtual Assistant, you know need to find the best way to communicate in order for you to work well as a team. You could ask your VA for recommendations on the best ways to communicate although sometimes they may not always work for you, even if you must use trial and error until you find what does work best for you.

3. What resources will the virtual assistant need access to?

Make sure to create a list of the resources you use with login details and any information they will need about them; you may need to make a document containing instructions to show them how to use them. Although if you know what you want to get done but don’t have the tools… your Virtual Assistant may be able to help guide you with this. Once you know what tasks the VA will be doing and set expectations then you will be heading in the right direction.

The most important thing is to be clear about what you want your VA to achieve… It can be hard to hand over the reigns to somebody else to start with, but remember that by letting go of some control and allowing your VA to help you will really free up your time to concentrate on other important tasks. If your virtual assistant has the skills and knowledge to perform the tasks, it’s important to trust them to do the jobs you need them to do.

Remember… with clear goals and expectations your business will soon be on its way to success.
