The rise of the remote workers

For many workers Covid-19s impact had depended a lot on one question: Can I work from home or do I have to go into my workplace? Whilst some companies used to offer the ability to work from home as a perk, it has now become the normal for most businesses meaning remote workers needed time to adapt and adjust to their workspace.

Many people thought 2020 was the year for working from home although the trend has continued into 2021… And according to a recent article on ‘The Adecco Group’, around 75% of workers are in favour of splitting their worktime 50/50 between home and their office. This shows it’s clear that the remote workforce is here to stay!

Although working from home is not beneficial for some, there are advantages such as better work-life balance. Many remote jobs also come with flexible schedules which means as long as their work is complete then they can start and end their day around their schedule. Being able to control this can be helpful when you still have errands and everyday life admin to attend too. Whether that is dropping kids off to school, attending the gym, organising bill payments and housework, these tasks are all easier to balance when you work from home.

A disadvantage of remote working is that it doesn’t suit everyone, some employees might prefer the routine and structure that working in an office environment provides them. Having that personal interaction with colleagues and guidance from managers can be useful in helping them complete tasks and achieve their goals. It’s important to have a suitable dedicated working space and if you do not have this it can impact on the quality of your work.

Having a choice of work environment and location is now a key factor for many job seekers when searching for a better work-life balance and looking for new career opportunities.
