Thinking of a career change since the pandemic

From younger people starting out in their careers, to people that have been working for many years, the pandemic has sparked a change in career paths for thousands of people.

During this time many people have unfortunately lost their jobs forcing them to think about their next steps, which could be a career change. On the other hand, you may still be in employment but the pandemic may have allowed you to adapt and reflect on your work. So, if either of these sound like you… do not panic as many other people are in the same situation.

Although you may think it is best, it is important to think about why you might feel like you want a career change during this time… as you don’t want to make a big change to help address issues that are only temporary due to the current circumstances.

For many people, the reason they may want to change career paths is due to the lack of jobs out there because of Covid. Although this may have an impact on your work right now you do not have to give up on plan A. Think about what plan B or C could be as it may be possible to achieve your goal but just in a different way. It is important to be realistic though and realise that there may not be many jobs in your sector for a while, but this is only temporary!

Make sure to think about ways your job has changed during the pandemic and contemplate whether it will return to how it was before, when you know this you will be able to see how you feel about the situation. Do you think though you will be happy in your current career path after the pandemic?

If you decide that a career change is right for you then make sure to have the right mindset, embrace the unknown and uncertainty that may come with it. When you try new things it may not always go smoothly, but don’t let this set you back… keep trying and you’ll eventually get there!
